How we work out your finish date
We divide your target word count by the words you plan to write each week. That gives your drafting time. We then add time for planning at the start and a buffer for the weeks life gets in the way, so the date you see is one you can actually hit.
The word count ranges for each genre are the same ones we use in the Library guide on book length, drawn from published guidance for each genre.
Questions writers ask
Do I need an account?
No. Instant needs nothing from you but four answers. Builder asks for your email address at the end so we can send your plan.
Is there a charge?
No. Both tools are open to everyone, with no payment required.
What happens to my email address?
We use it to send your plan and Library emails. Every email has an unsubscribe link. Our privacy policy explains how we store it.
I don't know my word count yet. Can I still use it?
Yes. Instant suggests a word count range for your genre, and you can use that as your target.
Do you see my writing?
No. WordPlan only asks about your book and your schedule, never for the writing itself.
What comes after the plan?
The guides on your reading path, starting with the ones in your email. WordTracker, which turns your plan into a daily schedule and tracks it, is open now at no charge. Create an account on the WordTracker page.
Start with four questions
Four answers are all it takes to see your finish date. If it looks right, Builder turns it into a full plan.
